Here are what I like and I don't. [Good] 1. Convenient five-dvd player (you can put 5 dvds inside.) 2. Xvid & WMV (you can play all your avi & wmv files) 3. Usb hosting (you can plug in your usb-hard drive or pmp and play your files.) 4. HDMI input (only 1, unfortunately) 5. FM-tuner is a bonus (your favorite station coming out from 5+1 speakers!) 6. extension cord for Ipod or other audio players 7. Sound from 5+1 speakers is really good and loud. 8. User interface is nice. You can change the background image with screen capture. [Minus] 1. wires .. wires .. (I know this unit is not a wireless, but I wish it were. Previosly I stated that it would not play backup movies, but it turns out that my software need it an update, and now they work perfectly. The only drawback to this system in the lack of inputs. YOu might have to do like I did and buy a 3 input HDTV/optical switch to be able to use more that one optical input source. I highly recommend buying the wireless module for the rear surround speakers. I did extensive research and found that through all of the reviews here and elsewhere and the amount of extras you get, I made a great choice. The system looks good, in my opinion, has all of the bells and whistles of more expensive systems (HDMI, FM tuner, wireless capability, etc) and sounds great. Connecting this system couldn't have been easier. I connected the HDMI cable from the system to my Samsung LCD TV, a Toslink cable from my HD cable modem to the system and the rest is history. There were two draw backs (and the reasons I didn't give it 5 stars). One is the instructions and its short explanations for all of its options. I'm a novice when it comes to audio systems and the instructions can be confusing in identifying which function is relevant to whatever listening situation. The instructions are not helpful, in fact, they describe the system operation opposite of reality. It's all about the wiring. The system comes with a Red/White RCA wire that merges to a 1/8" minijack. It also comes with a special HDMI wire with a mini HDMI on one side. The instructions say if you want the soundbar to be controlled by the TV remote (which is what I wanted) then you need to use a fiber optic cable (not provided). So I bought one for $17 and plugged it in. The sound bar worked but not as described. The TV did not control the soundbar. For grins I decided to plug in the HDMI cable they provided even though the manual said the TV would not control the soundbar in such a configuration. But exactly where to plug it in was another ordeal in itself. The HDMI cable goes in the "ARC" HDMI port on the TV. I didn't even know I had one...but I did. Neither the TV manual nor the soundbar manual provided much detail on... This review is from: Samsung Electronics HW-D550 Home Theater System (Electronics) Ok, so I read that this Soundbar/Sub sounds great but they are hard to set up and that there are "usability issues"...here is how I set it up in 30min and everything works and sounds perfect. This system uses the HDMI 1.4 ARC (audio return channel) if you want the soundbar to be automatically controlled. If your TV has an HDMI ARC (will be marked as such) input then connect the Soundbar to that directly. Then connect your Cable/Sat TV, DVD/BluRay, Apple TV, etc.. directly to your TV via HDMI. What should happen is that your TV will then route the audio through the HMDI ARC connection directly to your Soundbar. In turn, this will mean that your TV remote will control the sound, and the soundbar will turn on/off with your TV. The manual is horrible and does not clearly state how to properly connect. How is the sound. It is pretty good...I have a "nice" component system downstairs and the Samsung unit does not compare to that. If you are looking for component... Our Samsung LED has a very weak single speaker that needs to be set to near "20" to get somewhat room-filling sound. The HW-D550 takes care of that problem and the speaker bar fits on our mantle perfectly! As I said, this is a simple system that works sufficiently to meet our needs; we were not looking for room-rumbling lows or multiple speakers located in every corner. We just wanted a fuller sound at lower volumes with a little bit of bass thrown in.
