Samsung HT-C550 Home Theater System Reviews

(Selinsgrove, PA, USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Samsung HT-C550 Home Theater System (Electronics) This is a great, great home theater! I went to Wal-Mart with the sole idea of buying the Philips HTS3372D/F7 for half the price of this one. However, they were out and this was the only one they had left... and I was desperate. Installing my new home theater (which took only minutes), I was a little underwhelmed. I'll start at the auto calibration. Now in order to begin the calibration you must hook the microphone into the front and place it where you commonly sit. Sounds simple enough, right. Well, yes and no. The speakers then proceed to blast you with the MOST annoying static "sounds". The whole process takes about 3 minutes. This wouldn't be too bad if it actually worked the first time. Most of the speakers couldn't be read the first time and I had to redo it about 5 times til I got it just right. So now that its all hooked up, its time to mess with the settings. This is where I had the most problems. Samsung has kind of embedded the settings in the remote and while not really the... Try to find it for less than $250, but know you are getting a lot for the money. RECEIVER: The receiver looks great with a hidden DVD drive and touch-sensitive buttons. The DVD drive looks great, but it not particularly durable. A little door slides down and the drive pops out. The buttons work great and the volume button is a silver protruding round curve. It looks great, but it has a white backlight that is a little too bright, and can be distracting in the dark. A "dimmer" feature dims the input display screen, but (strangely, unfortunately) does not dim the volume buttons. SPEAKERS: The speakers sound great. They are very clear and have plenty of power. Although it is not hard to max out the system, you should find it plenty loud for watching movies in 5.1 surround. The center speaker looks and sounds... We had to go back to Walmart and get another cable for that. And then it took another 3 hours for us to figure out how to set it up to our PS3 in order to get full surround. Manual didn't help at all, and neither does their website. When we finally figured it out, the sound was amazing.I've been trying to get my ipod mini to play now. All it says is "Verifying..." and I can't use the control until I unplug the ipod. Sat there for about 30mins and it didn't do anything. So I plugged my zune into the usb port and it says it doesn't recognize the usb. Zune is an mp3 player, if the product doesn't recognize some brands then maybe they should say that, and there's nothing in the troubleshooting about having problems playing an mp3. Finally just plugged my ipod into the usb port and it plays, but it doesn't show the menus on your ipod so you have to go through all your root... Read more |
