I have been bouncing back forth between this one and the CT350 model. I was scared that this wouldn't be as loud as I would like it........wow was I wrong. The room I have it in is only 11 X 15 (system on short side) and this thing is fantastic. It has a max volume of 50 and I find 24 to be more than enough. Is it true 5.1....no... but it has great surround effects and very full sound.....you will feel like the action is going around you which is what we all want anyway isn't it? I tested it with Avatar Blu Ray..... Lord of the Rings ROTK Disc 2 DVD......Invictus ON Demand (for the accents.....hard on TV speakers).....was blown away each time I turned up the center to +5 to bring out the dialog a little more and set the sub at +2 I also mounted the speaker ABOVE the... This review is from: Sony HT-CT150 3D Sound Bar System (Electronics) i was really skeptical about going with a sound bar at first, but all of those thoughts were out the window as soon as the system got broken in (about 1 or 2 day period to fully break in the system). coming from the traditional 5.1 systems (have had systems ranging from home theater in a box-type of setups to bose lifestyle 5.1's to martin logan set ups), i was really surprised at how well this 1 speaker set up simulated "surround sound". i found myself looking over my shoulder every now and then, while watching movies, because i was hearing things from alot of different places, other than just in front of me. the CT150 was supposed to be a temporary set up for me, but after about a month of use, i'm really considering sticking to soundbars. the simplicity and ergonomics just cannot be compared to by big, traditional 5.1 systems. as for sound quality, the vocals are nice and crisp. i know the CT100 had a vocal problem, but i can hear everything crystal clear on my CT150... My previous audio system, run by 3 Carver stereo amps, is in boxes in the basement, as I did not want little hands breaking things or blowing up pieces. The old system had more spent in Monster Cable wiring then this system cost. Life changes and the wife did not want speakers and wires everywhere so I made a compromise. Current Setup: Sony Bravia TV (2006) Sony HTCT150 Sony Digital Media Port TDM-iP10 Sony PS3 - Original 60gig Nintendo Wii Leap Frog - Zippity At the time of this review I have owned the HTCT150 for just over 2 weeks and have been quite impressed with the results. 3D TV To Find A Good Future In 2011

All screens of this type (including a prototype of Sony in the same issue) uses technology to parallax barrier, which mainly produces "sections" around the television, where viewers can enjoy a full 3D effect and stand . In our experience, the effect was maximized at a standstill, and the slight body movements often broke out of the 3D image. 

In other words, although the first models were not too expensive, you would not need one in your room anyway. Not yet, anyway. Panasonic TC-P54VT25 Plasma 3D TV
The Panasonic VT25 series is the premium line of 3D TVs that have been on offer by Panasonic in 2010 and 2011. The VT25 has been universally acclaimed for its "Kuro-like" black levels (i.e., extremely dark blacks), amazing picture quality and the best implementation of 3D amongst the first generation 3D TVs.

With 600Hz Sub-Field drive technology with fast decaying phosphors for ultra-smooth video display and the ability to display 24fps content (Blu-Ray/DVD) natively at 96Hz using 3:3 pulldown techniques for judder-free movie watching. This is a great feature that is lacking in many other TVs. In addition, the THX mode offers a well calibrated, picture that matches THX specification right out of the box. Finally, the VT25 is very competitive on price in comparison to some of the more expensive 3D TV offerings from Samsung, Sony and other 3D TV manufacturers.

The only drawbacks are the lack of support for native 2D-& 3D conversion of video content and a bezel and design that doesn't look as sleek and sexy as some of the other 3D TVs in the market.




Samsung PN50C8000 Plasma 3D TV

Sony XBR-52HX909 Local Dimming Backlit LED 3D TV

The Sony XBR-52HX909 is an amazing 3D TV that is often overlooked by many. This is one of the only 3D TVs available that features "true" local LED backlight dimming for significantly improved black levels. While a lot of edge-lit LED TVs also claim to feature local dimming technology, it should be noted that edge-lit 3D TVs are inferior in this department as the edge-lighting compromises the ability to dim locally the backlight at specific points on the screen. The Sony 52HX909 features great picture quality, amazing black levels and jaw-dropping aesthetics. It also can convert regular 2D content to 3D and this actually work quite well on the HX909 series electronic gadgets.

The main drawback on this TV is the higher price point and the fact that the 3D Glasses and transmitter have to be purchased separately (although you might get lucky and score a free or cheap bundle).



LG 47LX9500 Local Dimming LED 3D TV

The LG 55LX9500 is a very attractive 3D TV that features full array LED backlighting like the Sony XBR HX909. Unlike Edge lit TVs, the LG 55LX9500 features much improved local backlight dimming thus giving exceptional black levels, excellent shadow detail and very good color fidelity. This 3D TV is only 1.3 inches thick and is extremely well designed. The 3D Performance on this set is not as strong as the TVs tech gadgets listed above, but it is still a great all round TV for your living room.

Panasonic TC-50GT25 Plasma 3D TV

The Panasonic TC-50GT25 is a very highly recommended mid-range 3D TV that provides best bang for the buck. Panasonic definitely nailed the 3D TV market with their VT25 and GT25 series of plasma 3D TVs. The GT25 is the mid-range Plasma 3D TV offering that features a lot of the same features that are present in the VT25. While you do sacrifice a bit in the way of black levels and the ability to play 24fps content natively (via 96Hz processing for a judder free viewing) in comparison to the VT25 series, the Panasonic GT25 series does have the bonus of including 2D to 3D content conversion, something that is lacking in the VT25 series. It also has all the regular goodies like Panasonic's VIERACast internet TV that allows you to Skype, watch Netflix amongst other things. The GT25 series features the best 2D and 3D performance you can get out of a 3D TV at this price point and like the VT25 is THX certified. Be sure to also check out the smaller 42 inch TC-P42GT25.

3D TV Not For Movies Only

3D TV has generated a lot of buzz lately with all the recent blockbuster movies coming to DVD. Movie buffs who want to recreate the 3D theatre effect have rushed out to buy one first generation of 3-dimentional televisions. Are these TV's only good for movie aficionados? What is in it for the casual TV viewer? Well, a lot actually.

Watching TV on the couch with the family is about to go to the next level as well. 3D TV is not just for the movies any more. Everything "kicked off" this past summer with the FIFA World Cup Football Championship 2010. This was the first major sport program to be broadcast in 3D.

So what can we expect from channels broadcast in 3D?
One of the popular satellite providers, DIRECTV, already has three dedicated 3D channels in the USA. They include DIRECTV cinema, n3D and ESPN 3D. Also they are working with AEG/AEG Digital Media, CBS, Fox Sports/FSN, Golden Boy Promotions, HDNet, MTV, NBC Universal and Turner Broadcasting System to develop additional 3D programming that should debut in 2011. The n3D programming platform will offer a 3D channel focused on sports, music, nature, arts and more. DIRECTV cinema will specialize in Hollywood blockbusters and documentaries.

ESPN 3D is another channel that will be offering sports programs in 3D. They started with the broadcast of the world cup last summer and they plan to feature at least 85 live sporting events during its first year. Some of the other upcoming broadcasts in 3D will be the 2011 BCS National Championship Game, college basketball and football and the Summer X Games.

The Discovery channel plans to launch their own 3D channel. Partnering with Sony and IMAX, Discovery Communications is another 3D TV channel competitor expected to launch in 2011. Although it will not be offered 24/7, the programming will feature content from genres that are most appealing in 3D, including natural history, space, exploration, adventure, engineering, science and technology, motion pictures and children's programming from Discovery, Sony Pictures Entertainment, IMAX and other third-party providers.
For those who do not live in the US and want their TV in 3D, there are some options for you as well. Canal 3D will be the first 3D TV channel in France. The new 3D channel will broadcast movies, live events, sports and animation. Spain will have 3D Pictures which will broadcast content such as sports, movies, concerts, entertainment, documentaries, animation, plays, circus, current affairs and high profile live events. Sky Channel 3D is the first 3D TV in the United Kingdom. The original tests was a broadcast between Arsenal and Manchester United in a few different pubs in London, Manchester, Cardiff and Edinburgh. The test was such a success that they plan to offer movies, sport, documentaries and entertainment programs.
