1.0 out of 5 stars After 2 years, I threw this HTIB in the trash...literally, May 11, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Samsung HT-BD1250 Blu-ray Home Theater System (Electronics)
After deciding on a Samsung HTIB system to integrate with my 2-year-old Samsung 46" HDTV, I came across this HT-BD1250 system at Best Buy with all the features I wanted (Bluray, surround sound with wireless to the rear speakers, Anynet+ integration, iPod integration), plus a few that I decided were "nice-to-have" (wireless network integration/Pandora/Netflix). Once I realized I would need to add the Samsung SWA-4000 wireless speaker amplifier and additional HDMI and optical cables for integration with my TV and HD/DVR cable box, the total package through Amazon was by far the best deal and way to go.

First quick note: You DO NOT need anything other than BASIC HDMI cables, which when purchased as a package here with Amazon are 80+% cheaper (even with the shipping charge from the third-party vendors) than if you buy them at Best Buy or other brick/mortar. DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE on so-called "higher end" HDMI cables.

As for the HTIB system itself, I found that the... Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Firmware upgrade problems, November 10, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Samsung HT-BD1250 Blu-ray Home Theater System (Electronics)
I have been using this unit for about 4 months now and was very happy with it even though sometimes I have noticed that it just shuts down in the middle of watching a movie. Today it prompted me for a firmware upgrade. Since it is connected to the internet the firmware upgrade was automatic. But after the firmware upgrade the unit just shows LOAD message and doesn't do anything. A Google search reveals that many people have the same issue with the firmware upgrade. When contacted Samsung tech support they asked me to ship the unit to them for repair. Even though this problem was reported days back, I am surprised they haven't pulled the firmware upgrade, also the support is not very helpful in that they are not willing to make a correction to my address on their record even though I requested it twice. Bad firmware upgrade and poor support makes this product bad.

Update 11/25/2009 :

Today CVE called me to inform me that I have to pay about 160USD for repairs for... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what I wanted., May 14, 2009

Bought a Samsung LN52A650 before xmas which I thoroughly love and have been debating what audio to match it up with. Blu-ray and 5.1 were a must but buying both a player and 5.1 amp plus matching speakers/subwoofer can get pretty spendy. TA-DA...this thing shows up. Not being 5.1 savvy before this I wasn't prepared for the rear speakers to pretty much stay quiet but when they get the right feed its awesome.

My set up:
DirecTV HDDVR hdmi to the LN52A650 for broadcast TV.
BD1250 hdmi to LN52A650 for BD/DVD/CD/IPod/Pandora/FM/camera/etc.
Network cables wired direct from DSL modem to BD1250, LN52A650 and HDDVR. (The wife loves Pandora...check out their website if you love music and aren't familiar with them.)
Optical audio from DirecTV HDDVR to HT-BD1250 if I want to listen to 5.1 from DirecTV. Note: It says in the LN52A650 documents that going from it to another audio system is always at best "stereo" no matter what type of connector you use. The heck... Read more

Where to start...

Nerd's notes:
First of all, for those that get the Sony BDV-E570 that was manufactured earlier in the year, it may have been before they fixed the issues with the software upgrade. I believe I received such a model. Being the overly concerned nerd that I am, I read the manual. It is not very specific, but does tell you to plug in the network cable to perform the upgrade. Read into this and you must assume to NOT PERFORM THE UPGRADE OVER WIFI. Well, you can take that a step further, (which of course I did), and you can download the update directly from Sony, place the files on a blank CD-R, then place the disk in the player and perform the update that way (it auto detects that the disk contains update files very nicely). This worked perfectly. No issues like the horror stories I have been hearing about this model (earlier this year), and the next model up the BDV-E770W. Due to the age of the model I received, there were two updates to perform,... Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars It works pretty well, but...., September 7, 2010
This review is from: Sony BDV-E570 Blu-ray Player Home Entertainment System (Electronics)
I bought this system to replace my Sony 5 speaker system with a 5 CD/DVD changer and a receiver, which was getting a little dated. It does some great things that I couldn't do with my other system, but there are also some drawbacks. I appreciated most of the reviews on this website, but here are my 2 cents:

pros: Can watch Netflix "watch instantly" movies and shows
can listen to Pandora
can watch photos, videos from a flash drive
sound is pretty good, comparable to my last system

cons: It cannot play my iPod (5th gen iPod classic). Watch out for this: the system can play some iPod's, but not others.
It cannot play European (other than region 1) DVD's. I now have to hook up my European DVD player to the television because the unit is not a real receiver.
Does FM, not AM radio

Overall, it was a good buy for me since I got it on Amazon for $350, so I can't complain too much.

Right out of the box, it was very easy to set up as long as you the patience to find a way to run the rear speakers with hiding the speaker wire. Also, the speaker wire to the the rear speakers is too short to place them far enough back to optimize the 5.1 sound.

I Wish that the subwoofer was powered. The passive subwoofer gives good sound, not great sound. The 1,000 watt system easily fills the large family room with quality sound.

The system has the minimum amount of inputs, but lacks an audio out-put to run a set of B speakers to another room in the house.

I haven't tried the WiFi conection to the internet yet. I'll update my review after I try the WiFi feature.

Overall, It's a good system for anyone looking for a complete Blu-Ray video & DTS 5.1 audio right out the box. I got the best price from Amazon (Amazon stands behind any product that you purchased fom them) and it was deilver in two days. Other than the rear speaker wires (it's... Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars Love the features, hate the speaker noise and LG customer service, April 24, 2010

I recently purchased a LG LHB335 BluRay all in one surround sound home theater system from Best Buy. The center and right rear speakers emit a whistling noise that sounds like a teapot when boiling. Not quite that loud, but enough to be a very undesirable noise in a new unit. I took the first one back, BB gave me another. Same thing. Then another. Same thing. I have connected it to another location with speaker wiring and a Monster Power supply and yes, it does the same thing! I called LG and they said they have no reports on this problem, but when a search is conducted, many people are complaining. Until this issue is resolved, I would suggest not buying this unit!

EDIT---More details:
The LHB335 has a horrible "Tea Pot" whistling noise emitted from the center speaker. It also comes from the right rear speaker at times. It is so annoying that I took it back to Best Buy. Exchanged for another and same thing! I relocated the unit on a different electrical... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Great unit for the money, April 12, 2010
This review is from: LG LHB335 1100-Watt Network Blu-ray Disc Home Theater System, Black (Electronics)
I purchased an LG television last fall and have really enjoyed it. When I needed a new combo system I found this LG system that fits my needs. It is the only one in this price range that allows you to hook up already existing speakers. Most units have those little plastic plugs that make you use their speakers. My U-verse DVR has an ethernet plug so the internet hookup was easy. It has an iPod dock and you can control your music playback onscreen. I have really enjoyed using the online capabilities. Netflix is adding more movies all the time and you can even view photos saved with Picasa(Google). Creating your own radio station using Pandora is icing on the cake. All-in-all, a great unit for the money.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed in Sound Quality (Popping, Whistling & HDMI Problems as Well), May 4, 2010
By
mrcatman (California, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: LG LHB335 1100-Watt Network Blu-ray Disc Home Theater System, Black (Electronics)
We have a very simple setup, with 90% of our use being watching cable company's DVR on the TV. We purchased the upgraded 535 model, returned it, and purchase this 335 model as well. Same exact problems on both, with an added problem (one of the worst) on this 335.

PROS:
- Very easy to set up
- Small speakers (i.e., wife-friendly size/dimensions)
- Wired internet worked quickly/easily
- LG updates downloaded quickly, installed easily (wired internet)
- HDMI input on the device is nice (can use HDMI switcher for multiple devices)
- Support for internet streaming is nice (YouTube, Netflix, etc.)

CONS:
- Sound quality is horrible
- Omnipresent tea-pot "whistling" through speakers
- Popping sounds changing LG's input
- Popping sounds using DVR (even with each channel change)
- Awful "reverse" communication through HDMI to DVR

Let me give some more details on the CONS above.

Sound Quality... Read more
