It was one of their top 5 systems I believe. As such, I was expecting great things. I have had to settle for good things. The sound is good. I wanted an unobtrusive set up in our new place, and on that point the system delivers. Nice little speakers, appear to be of quality manufacture, but I find I have to drive them a little harder than my old Klipsch Quintet. Nonetheless, I like the system. I was worried they wouldn't be loud enough, or that I'd have to turn it all the way up to make it loud. These are some of the most crisp speakers I've heard in a while, and plenty loud enough for the living room, and other big rooms. The bass isn't window rattling, but it blends in so well with the rest of the system, and the other speaker, everything sounds so natural. I would highly recommend these to any of my friends. It goes as loud as I like it, and then has more to spare. I use these speakers first for what they are meant, a surround sound system and second to listen to live steaming music from Pandora. I must say that part of my instant and overwhelming love of these speakers are in part based on what they are replacing, a 5.1 mini JBL system. I had that system for 10 years and always loved how it performed even though I knew it could be out done. About 3 years ago I decided I would replace the JBL system and after reading the reviews the Mirage MX 5.1 seemed my best option. The price was the only thing that held me back. When the price dropped on Black Friday this year I jumped at it. I'm the production manager for a national jazz festival and I know what a good professional sound system sounds like. Why Are Plasma TVs So Slim?

If plasma TVs can be so thin, why have we spent decades with those bulky, oversized television sets taking up an entire corner of the room? The answer is in the technology.

To understand why plasma TVs can be so thin, you should start by understanding why traditional television sets of the past couldn't be. Those televisions typically used tubes as the means to producing the pictures. There were several problems with tubes, including their size. The size of tubes inside a television set depended on the amount of screen space the picture was expected to fill.

The technology wasn't put to the "size test" until people became disenchanted with the typical 20-inch screen and started demanding larger screens. Manufacturers were happy to meet the demands, but there was a problem. The dimensions of tubes are predetermined. If you want a bigger screen, you have to be prepared to project a larger picture. Larger picture demands a larger tube. It's always been a given that the size of the television set was dependent on the amount of "stuff" that had to be fitted inside. Larger tubes meant larger cases.

If you consider the average size of a 20-inch television set that used tube technology, you can imagine how big the case would have to be in order to project a picture for a 32-inch, 40-inch or larger screen.

By contrast, a plasma TV doesn't need the tubes in order to project the picture. Plasma TV, by its very technology, can be housed in a very thin case. Instead of having tubes that project a picture onto that big screen, the plasma TV works by lighting up the phosphorous coating at various times to create the images prescribed by the signal.

The result is that plasma TV screens require very little space other than the room for the screen and the phosphorous. In fact, the entire packages are actually thin enough that they can be mounted - creating a viewing experience only to be imagined with the tube-type television technology. It also means that the thickness of the screen can remain virtually constant, even while the width and height of the screen increases dramatically.

When you consider where the technology is, and where it's come from, you'll see that the huge television sets of a decade ago weren't merely a fad. Those cases weren't created that large simply to provide a shelf for mom's favorite flower arrangement or the wedding photo. It was just a matter of providing a case for the technology.

Plasma TVs were first on the scene, but the recent mass production of LCD TVs by major manufactures has put LCD TVs pretty much on equal footing with plasmas. That said, you will still have to make a choice.

If you're like most people, you not only have no idea how the two differ, you don't even know the areas you should be considering to determine how they differ. However they do indeed differ, and knowing the difference is extremely important if you're going to get the TV that's right for you.

You can essentially boil the differences between plasmas and LCD into twelve basic points. In some areas, plasmas will win out. In other areas, LCD will win out. In yet other areas, it will depend on your own personal taste to decide who wins out.

The twelve ways plasma TV and LCD TV differ are the following:

1. The first is a technical issue, and may seem a little boring, but it really does affect other areas. Plasmas TVs are made of chemical compounds called phosphors. LCD TVs use millions of liquid crystals.

7. The next area is life span. You can replace the light source with  the LCD, thereby bringing your original picture back. With plasmas you can't.

8. In the next few sections, the theme of  picture quality is considered. First, color: LCD produce sharp, lively colors. Plasmas produce warmer and more accurate colors.

9. Next is brightness levels and the TVs ability to handle different lighting. LCD tends to do better in bright-light conditions.

10. Also related to picture quality is black levels. Plasmas tend to produce blacker blacks.

11. Another area to consider contrast range. Plasmas, "technically," produce a higher contrast range.

12. Last, and certainly not least, is pricing. At the moment, plasmas tend to run little cheaper, but this is changing rapidly as LCD flood into the market. By the time you read this, in fact, there may be no difference at all.

Essentially, which one is right for you will all comes down to taste: What potential negatives will you not really notice? What positives do you want more of?
